Get ready to look to the skies over Roswell! The National Championship Air Races are returning to the Roswell Air Center from September 16-20, 2026, bringing five days of high-speed racing to southeastern New Mexico. Experience High-Speed Air Racing in Roswell

The National Championship Air Races feature some exhilarating competition across seven aircraft classes. Six classes race around closed pylon courses at altitudes from 50 to 250 feet, with as many as eight airplanes competing in a heat. Depending on the class, aircraft can reach speeds exceeding 500 mph.

The seventh class adds a different kind of competition. In STOL (short takeoff and landing) drag racing, two pilots compete head-to-head, racing to one end of the course, landing, turning around, and then racing back to the starting line.

There's also plenty to enjoy beyond the racing. The 2026 event includes daily airshows featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, military flybys, aerobatic performances, exhibits, vendors, and hands-on STEM activities. Visitors can also explore the pits for an up-close look at the aircraft and a chance to meet pilots and crews.
